About Me

I like to think of my photographs as unexpected moments caught in time— passing scenes whose transient, magical colors stop me in my path, calling me to take out my camera.  These are often also metaphorical moments for reflection—pausing to muse on where I have been and where I am going, while admiring the light’s own ability to reflect.  Impressionist painters sought to express a transient photographic moment in time through paint; I turn this around and try to mirror the subjectivity and dreaminess of Impressionist paintings by photographing the reflection of an image rather than the image itself.

Many of my images are close-up reflections in water; in others I have tried to attain a delicate balance of light and color reminiscent of watercolor paintings.  I have been told that some of my photos remind people of Impressionist-style art.  While that was not originally my goal, it has recently become a passion.

Besides reflections, I also enjoy photographing sunsets, fall foliage, travel landscapes, and wildlife, and am working on several collections that I hope to display in the near future.  When I am not out taking pictures, I work as a cell biologist, observing and photographing life’s reflections and shadows on a smaller scale, and I enjoy exploring the boundary between art and science.
